The weather is getting brighter in the UK and people are starting to think about their summer holidays. When the schools break up many people will rent a motorhome to go abroad, the 6 week holiday from schools gives families a great opportunity to travel to a few destinations and go abroad instead of just staying in the UK.
2014 Events in France this Summer
Tour De France
5th – 27th July
The tour de France is probably one of the most famous cycling events in the world and set upon the beautiful French landscapes of forests, lakes and mountains with the French sun this is an idyllic event. When hiring a motorhome you could follow the event around all of their destinations or just look at the map and pick a few highlights.
There are a number of camping sites in the region, Bordeaux is far enough south to enjoy the lovely weather (in June on average around 24 °C) but not too hot so you can still enjoy the festivities and sample the wines without getting heatstroke.
70th anniversary of D Day and the battle of Normandy
5th – 7th June
This year marks the 70th anniversary of D Day and the battle of Normandy and a number of events and festivities are taking place around Normandy to commemorate the occasion.
The 70th celebrations will include a firework display along the coast on the main D-Day sites, a concert for Liberty, military vehicle parades and parachute drops over Sainte-Mère-Eglise. You can also watch the sound and light show on the village square and there will also be a cinema/theatre show about the night on 5th/6th June 1944.
Although the festivals and events are a celebration of D Day they are also a fitting memorial to the men and women whom gave their lives during the battle of Normandy and World War 2.
Le Mans Classic
July 4th – 6th
Recreating the legendary Le Mans classic race nearly 500 classic race cars will race on the famous circuit. This year is the seventh edition of the great race that will celebrate 90 years of le mans in 24 hours.
If you are a car enthusiast or just appreciate the beauty of vintage race cars and elite cars then this event will not disappoint. This 3 day event hosts a plethora of activities and eye candy for those of you who are interested in classic and performance cars.
There are plenty of campsites around to park up your motorhome and join the festivities. This is a great stop off to Paris or to the south or West of France.
