motorhome hire tips

If you are new to hiring a motorhome then it may seem a bit daunting, so we have put together some of our top tips for hiring a motorhome.

Test Drive A Motorhome

The total cost of our motorhomes includes insurance and whilst most people will adapt to driving a motorhome pretty quickly they can be a bit daunting. Try to test drive a motorhome, and practice parking, the additional height can be a blessing as you have much better visibility of the road in front, however you have to remember you are much higher up if faced with height limiting barriers.

You will also have less visibility behind you and parking a motorhome can be difficult when you are not used to the size. You only need a little test drive to be able to tell if you should start out with a smaller motorhome or if you can handle a larger motorhome or luxury motorhome.

Some new hirers will actually upgrade to the bigger and luxury motorhomes as they have rear parking cameras which actually makes it a bit easier.

Pack for A Motorhome

This seems pretty obvious, you are going on a motorhome holiday so pack for a motorhome, right!

Even the largest motorhomes are still limited on space so you need to be practical when packing, what is essential, what is nice to have and what is really just decadence. If there is an alternative that is compact choose that over bulky items and also remember whilst on the road you need to pack things securely so they don’t roll, break or spill.

Check Out the Motorhome’s Kitchen

Some hirers will just keep essentials in the motorhome and eat out a lot, but one of the benefits of having a motorhome is you can cook your own food, this is great for saving money but also ensuring you always have what you want to eat.

When hiring your motorhome make sure you check out the kitchen, is it sufficient for what you want, do you need to upgrade to a bigger fridge or will it suffice for your breakfasts, lunch and dinner?

Motorhome facilities can vary, some will have microwaves, some just a hob make sure you understand what you are getting so you can properly plan your meals.

Expect Rain on your Motorhome Holiday

We all like to hope for glorious sunshine when on holiday but let’s face it, if you are camping in the UK you will most likely get some rain, and if you are camping in Europe there is still a chance of rain, and the Dordogne can be quite well known for heavy rain and thunderstorms.

You are probably thinking, that’s fine I can cope with a bit of rain, and sure, but you do need to prepare.

If you are using an awning or adjacent tents make sure they are flood proof and you put down proper ground sheets that won’t let water in.

Also make sure you have some sort of entertainment, if you are waiting for rain to pass in a motorhome with a few people pack a few indoor games, books and activities (anything that flat packs can be good).

Be  A Responsible Camper

Your Motorhome holiday should be fun, however, there are responsibilities that you should look up before hiring.

It is important to look after the countryside and respect the rules of any campsite, make sure you understand how to get rid of portaloo waste and other waste properly.

Check with your motorhome provider any insurance or travel information specific to them or the motorhome you are hiring.

If you have any questions then our customer service team are always happy to help, so make sure you have fun!
